Be You, a short visual novel, takes you into a wild world where you play a person with some very simple choices that take them to a very strange place.
You play a character who is having a birthday in Be You. It’s almost like any normal day: you wake up, think about your birthday, and see a present come for you. It’s once that present is open that the world becomes far different.
There are various options as you play – favorite foods and colors to pick, as well as bits of conversation. As you play yourself, you end up shaping your character through your options.
Be You is one of those visual novels where the game developer, Louis Morel, talks through the game, breaking the fourth wall. He is almost like another character, telling you why this scene is like this, or explaining why he didn’t do a specific task, thus changing the story what it is. Morel is a beautiful writer, and everything within the game is explained, from the background meaning of the color the narrator picks, the idea behind the cereal you had, and more.
Though Be You is short, the various options you can pick gives it some replay value, as the world will really change depending on what you do. That along with the unique visual style and narration make it well worth your time to play and explore.
